Overview
Each year, the Baylor Center for School Leadership (BCSL) hosts Just Schools Academy, a two-day professional learning event for educators and administrators in public and independent education.
We want to see you succeed, so we provide tools to help you create catalyzing change.
Led by Dr. Jon Eckert, and based on the research in his book, Just Teaching, this approach will equip your school's team to improve and progress toward your goals with greater engagement and effectiveness.
"The great hope in all we do is to help kids become who they are created to be." - Jon Eckert, Ed.D
What we'll accomplish together:
Through our work together for the two and a half-day immersion, teams will collaborate with the Baylor Center for School Leadership team and other schools who want to address a problem at their school. You will utilize adaptive challenge tools throughout your time with us and create a plan to enter into your school year.
Who it's for:
The Academy is designed to host teams of teachers and administrators working to improve their schools together, ideally we would have a team with 3 to 10 team members including at least one administrator and one teacher.
"Hopefully, you know by now that this work is better when you walk this journey with others, so grab some colleagues if you have not already. Be sure to include teachers and administrators because we learn and teach best together."
-Just Teaching
How it works:
Teams will explore the Adaptive Challenge Framework (derived from Bryk et al., 2015) to create a Measurable Improvement Aim for students. Throughout the year, co-captains will meet virtually once a month with our Director of Networks and Improvement to collect evidence of impact.
During the two and a half-day in person immersion teams will get the chance to:
- work with schools from around the country
- utilize tools, resources, and training from Baylor's Center for School Leadership team;
- hear from some of Baylor's most respected leaders in Leadership seminars; and
- have access to the collective expertise of a network of other schools, through our Improvement Communities, that share similar problems of practice and their solutions.
How to be prepared:
- Bring a team of teachers and administrators from your school
- Bring a problem in your school your team would like to address.
- Suggest other schools with which you would like to collaborate.
What will be different:
- This is not a conference.
- You will impact your school by unpacking a problem of practice that connect directly to student improvement.
- Gain support from the BCSL’s experts, and educators across the country, through a year of working together on your school’s plan to improve after the Academy.
Cost:
$1500 per team (up to 10 members from the same school)
$300 per individual (individuals are encouraged to attend)
